MARIA RAZO Obituary

Maria Cortes Razo, age 75, loving mother of four, and wife to husband Nicolas Gonzalez Razo,
passed away in her home with her husband and two daughters by her side on March 10, 2024
after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Maria was born on a ranch called El Refugio de
Cortes near Manuel Doblado, Guanajuato in Mexico on May 12, 1948 to Ramon Cortes and
Marina Saenz. Maria was the youngest child and joined her brothers and sisters - Ramona,
Manuel, Tomas, Ines, and Jesus.
Maria married Nicolas Razo on July 24, 1976 at the age of 29 and within a few months they
moved to Orange County, California, where they lived until 1990 when they moved to Riverside,
California and have lived in the same home ever since. Maria and Nicolas had four children
together: Maria (Chela), Nicolas (Nico), Mercedes (Meche) and Moises (Moi).
As a young child, Maria was kind and loved to play with dolls that her mom beautifully
handcrafted out of corn husks and fabric scraps. Her favorite holiday was Easter and before her
grandchildren were born, she would host egg hunts in their beautiful garden for neighborhood
children just to see the joy in their faces. She loved to feed everyone (yes everyone!) and she was
such a great cook. She also loved to garden and could propagate nearly any plant. She was also
great at sewing and took great pride in sewing beautiful dresses for our school dances and our
halloween costumes. And to stay fit, she loved to walk, so much so that she never got her
driver’s license. Maria adored her family and her life revolved around making them feel loved
and happy. We felt her love…always!
Our mom was the strongest and kindest woman. She fought an 8 year battle with cancer with
no complaints, even through numerous surgeries, chemo, and radiation...she kept pushing
through with a smile and sense of humor, and still thought of others. Even in the hospital, she
still made us laugh and made friends and talked to everyone she met. We always said that she
never met a stranger. Even though she was very outgoing and friendly, my mom was very
private and only a handful of people knew that she had cancer...she didn't want to worry
anyone...and so we respected her wishes and didn't share her struggles. She never gave up on
her faith even through her pain.
Our mom was a truly special person who positively touched everyone she met with a great sense
of humor and lightheartedness. We have no doubt that our mom has a special place in heaven
with our brother and her parents and brothers and sister. There are no words to describe how
deeply she will be missed, but she leaves footprints of herself in our hearts and we know that her
kindness, compassion and love will live on through not only her family, but her friends as well.
We will love like Tita!

Maria is survived by her husband, Nicolas Gonzalez Razo; two sisters: Inez Urbieta & Jesus
Fuentes; three children, Maria Razo, Nicolas Razo & Mercedes Razo; seven grandchildren (she
was their Tita): Bella Dale, Benjamin Dale, Marina Hefner, Carolina Hefner, Emilia Hefner, Julia Hefner & Arthur Hefner; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Ramon Cortes y Marina Saenz.
Ramona, Tomas, Manuel, Inez y Jesus.
Maria y Nicolas
tuvieron cuatro hijos juntos: Maria (Chela), Nicolas (Nico), Mercedes (Meche), y Moises
(Moi).
jardinear y podia reproducir casi cualquier planta.

Jesus Fuentes; tres hijos: Maria Razo, Nicolas Razo y Mercedes Razo; siete nietos (ella
era su Tita): Bella Dale, Benjamin Dale, Marina Hefner, Carolina Hefner, Emilia Hefner, Julia
